#AdventWord 7 Believe

Believe!
An instruction...Something to do at all costs?
Or a simple verb...
Credo
I believe
"Credo in unum Deum omnipotentem, factorum coeli et terra" I sing,  with Bach's music loud in my mind
This is the sound of certainty.
Bach has no room for questioning.
This is the music of faith, not doubt.
I believe.

The light of faith burns brightly...on a good day at least!

But I doubt if I'm the only one who finds that some days belief comes more easily than others...that aspects of the historic Creeds can sometimes seem to strain credulity almost to breaking point.
The candles that write my word are all alight - but some burn with confidence while others flicker, glimmer, are almost extinguished.
Faith is not certainty.
Faith is not knowledge.
It is both more precarious and more precious.
A gift.

Lord, You have always given
bread for the coming day;
and though I am poor,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always given
strength for the coming day;
and though I am weak,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always given
peace for the coming day;
and though of anxious heart,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always kept
me safe in trials;
and now, tried as I am,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always marked
the road for the coming day;
and though it may be hidden,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always lightened
this darkness of mine;
and though the night is here,
today I believe.
ff
Lord, You have always spoken
when time was ripe;
and though you be silent now,
today I believe.
